Three Pools

The Committee is well aware of the situation regarding the weeds in the Three Pools. The Secretary has been in touch with the EA on a number of occasions since it first became obvious that it was becoming unfishable. There seems to be a logistical problem regarding the weed cutting boat. It no longer resides locally like it used to do. We have been assured that the weeds will be cleared within the next ten days.

New Season 2010

As from 16th June all S.D.AA waters are open, The Committee wishes that members and guests to enjoy the many waters that the Association has to offer and tight lines for the new season.

Please let us know how you get on as the weekly reports are essential for promotion of the club. This can be done by using the feedback form. You don't have to catch a monster to feature in the weekly reports!

Just a little reminder that fishing is only between dawn and dusk and there is no night fishing on any of the waters, also alcohol is not to be bought onto any of the Association waters.

New Fishing Pegs Three Pools Water Lane

While work is still taking place we request that members do not use the new pegs until the project is fully completed.

JUNIOR MATCH RESULTS 6th April 2010

What a poor days fishing. Although the weather held out for everyone, the fish didn't appear to be interested. 13 youngsters attended and most enjoyed the day even though not all caught fish.

Match “Away” Days 2010

During last year’s matches, a few members suggested having a series of matches on venues other than our own waters. With this in mind, six “away” days have been put into the clubs match calendar for 2010:

Date Venue 29th May 2010 Martin Hall (Hoole)
19th June 2010 Hall Lane Fishery (Rufford)
24 July 2010 Rosemary Wood (Haskayne)
28th August 2010 Lathom Fishery (Burscough)
18th September 2010 Firswood (Skelmersdale)
9th October 2010 To Be Confirmed
Deposits to secure the venues have been paid, I would be grateful if members wanting to fish would book onto these matches as soon as possible, so that peg numbers can be notified to the fisheries.Deposits to secure the venues have been paid, I would be grateful if members wanting to fish would book onto these matches as soon as possible, so that peg numbers can be notified to the fisheries.
If these matches are well supported, we will look to make them a permanent feature of the clubs match diary. Please contact Paul Tabron for more details

Restocking Shedule 2010

On Tuesday 30th March 2010, the EA, through Mainstream Fisheries, stocked the Three Pools with Roach and Bream which were introduced at Sandy Bridge and at Moss Lane. At this time the EA asked S & DAA not to publicise this stocking because the case had not been heard yet. Fish stocked were:
Roach 6/8 352.5lb 3238 fish
Roach 7/9 464.7lb 2335 fish
Roach 10”+ 169.5lb (about 100 fish to 1.5 lb maximum size)
Bream 5/7 382lb 3860 fish
Bream 6/8 370lb 3113 fish
Bream 7/9 169.2lb 855 fish
Bream 10”+ 120.6lb (about 100 fish to 1.75lb maximum size)
Total weight 2028.5lb
On Monday, 12 April 2010, United Utilities pleaded guilty to polluting the waterway and were fined £14,000. They had already paid the Environment Agency around £40,000 to restock the water which accounted for the first stocking.
On 15 April 2010 the following fish were stocked at the same locations.
Tench 10”+ 24lb
Tench 8/10 200 fish
Tench 6/8 450 fish
Perch 8”+ 3 fish
Perch 5/7 520 fish
Pike 200lb (Around 20 fish to 12lb)
These are not the final figures. There are larger Tench and larger Bream still to come but no dates have been given.

As part of the club's restocking plan, a mixture of 3,000 bream and roach were intoduced into the River Crossens on Tuesday 30th March 2010. These fish will complement the other fish that we have in the water and hopefully improve catches in the coming years.

Anglezarke Reservoir Road Closure

A road at Anglezarke Reservoir will be closed for a month from March 22. United Utilities has announced part of Moor Road, alongside the dam, will be shut to allow an inspection of the reservoir to take place.

River Crossens Platforms

The nine new pegs on the Day Ticket length are now complete and ready for use. There are six before the disabled pegs and three on the length between Water Lane and the pipe bridge. Anglers are now advised to use these pegs and not to dig out the banks to make their own.

River Ribble

The stretch of water upstream of Church Deeps has been taken over by RADAC. As a result of this, parking is no longer available at the farm to our members.

2010 Membership

Membership is now being accepted for the 2010 season.

Upper Rivington Pike Fishing

Please beware that Day Ticket anglers are not allowed to fish for pike or carp on this water.
Call the baiiff's attention to any illegal fishing.

Litter

Litter has yet again become a problem on day ticket areas of the River Crossens and Anglezarke Reservoir ,mainly consisting of deadbait packets and beer cans.
We would remind anglers and guests that alcohol is not to be taken onto any of the S.D.A.A waters.
The S.D.A.A has a very serious view of litter being left on our waters . It is a danger to wildlife and the environment and unpleasant for other members who wish to fish that swim. It weighs less when empty than when full so why not take it back home with you. Any member or guest who is caught leaving litter will be brought before the Committee and possibly banned from the club.
A clean up is being organised and if any member would like to help out please contact us by via the enquiries page on this website.

Rufford Canal - Winter stoppage programme

From 9 November 2009 to 18 December 2009, the Lock Gate at bridge 7 (Rufford) is being replaced. It may not take the whole period to do the job but while the gate is being replaced, the water levels will fluctuate. The canal will not be drained and the fish stocks will remain in situe.

Thank you
The committee.

P.A.C Teach In

The Committee would like to thank Jon Nefacy and P.A.C Region 31 for the time and effort with putting together a pike teach in workshop on Saturday 12th September 2009 , below is a full report on the day's event.

Region 31 PAC GB 3RD Annual Pike fishing Teach in Jon Neafcy R/O Region 31 PAC GB

As they say kids are the future! In angling they are truly the future of our great sport. I am fortunate in that as a kid I had two great teachers to coach me as a junior angler in the form of my uncles both mad keen enthusiastic anglers, however not everyone is so lucky, some kids can drift in & out of the sport, sometimes maybe because they struggle. None of us were born anglers, we all had to start somewhere. As a qualified angling coach it,s good to put something back into the sport. At Region 31 PAC GB South Lancashire we have for the last three years now held successful well attended teach in,s the first two years which were on Carmill Dam in conjunction with St Helens Anglers, last year a percentage of the kids were ones who had attended the year before. This year it was time for pastures new. Southport& District Angling Association had asked about a teach in, this would mean a new catchment area for attendees, Region 31 were happy to oblige.
The scene was set for the Crossens Sluices a drain system, and a suitably safe & accessible area was chosen, arrangements were made, promotional flyers were distributed around the local tackle shops, risk assessments undertaken and safety briefings compiled. Quite a few R31 Members volunteered to steward the event (thanks lads) A couple of the Southport Anglers Committee also came along to oversee the event.
On arrival it was a cracking glorious September day, maybe a bit too bright for pike fishing, but a great day for the kids to turn up & be shown the ropes, we spilt the stewards up into who was doing what including lures, ledgered deadbaits, paternostered deadbaits & fish care. Stewards were assigned to carrying out the safety briefings & also a steward was assigned to escort the kids from one activity to the next.
Over twenty kids turned up & a few adult beginners, these were divided into groups & were shown the basics of setting up, trace making, casting lures etc. It was quite a warm September day & the timing was 10am-2pm, not the best fishing time but then again not too many kids & parents would have turned up at 5am! Just as I was explaining my rig set up to a couple of newcomers my other rod went, a spirited pike of about 8lb was promptly lost! Doooh! However just before I packed up I managed another of about 7lb & we got a group photo of a few of the kids with the fish, the smiles on their faces says it all.
The event was carried out safely & successfully and hopefully a few more prospective pikers set off on the pike fishing journey that day. My thanks to all the stewards who attended including Mark Berrisford, Eric Edwards & his son Joe, Mike Towey, Karl & Shaun Devlin & particularly Peter Kendrick for helping to arrange the event, Southport&D.A.A for their help & support & Peter Waterfield of Waterfield baits who supplied more than enough deadbaits for the kids to use.
The feedback received from the two S.D.A.A Committee members that attended on the day was very good, thanks for that. Tight Lines Jon Neafcy R/O Region 31 PAC GB Wigan Piker

Part Year Membership

Reduce fees are now available for part year membership and valid until 31st December 2009.

From British Waterways

We have recently received a number of reports regarding anglers fishing either too close to moored boats or obstructing designated visitor moorings.
As part of the Waterways Code please can I remind you of the following:
· Don't obstruct locks, bridges, designated moorings, water points or turning points.
· Boat crews need access to the bank within 25 metres of locks or moveable bridges so do not fish there
· Boats are peoples homes so please respect their privacy, including those on the opposite bank. Try to fish at least 15 metres away.
I appreciate that these actions may not be carried out by members of your club; however I would be grateful if you could reiterate these points to all members. Please be advised that I have sent this letter to all angling clubs across the North West.

River Ribble Church Deeps

Preston Council are due to start work on the drain that crosses the steps down to the waters edge. This work is estimated to take up to three weeks to replace the whole drainage system from the road. Members are asked not to park their vehicles directly in front of the gate next to the scout hut, preferably up to 20 feet away each side of the gate to allow access for council workers and their vehicles. Alternate access may be made from the farm but you may be charged for parking.

Recent Reports

The Sluice is now fishing better than it was at the beginning of the season and match weights are up as you can see from the 'match' page.
Twin Lakes is also fishing well with some members catching over a hundred fish per session. Because of the recent hot weather, keep nets have been temporarily banned there.

New footbridge for the Match Length

Work is now complete. Many thanks go to Derek Hodkinson and Eddie Taylor for their stirling work.

Derek and Eddie
Derek and Eddie

Derek designed the new walkway and this has made access easier for people of all ages to get onto the middle bank with their tackle. The bridge goes up to the top as far as we are allowed because the EA has to have an exit from the back drain for their vehicles.

Derek has also been inserting steps down to the pegs. Our intention is to put steps down to all the pegs along the whole length. If you would like to help, you can ring Derek on 01704 229000, he has all the gear and it only takes about one hour to put a set of steps in. Match Pegs

Work Parties

Work parties are an essential part of any angling club however large or small and we have over the last couple of years tried to make these work parties easier by making good pegs and parking areas which make for less work in the long run but this work has been carried out by a dedicated few . There are still areas in which worked is needed so if any member feel that they would like to take part in a work party then they are welcome to come along and help in what ever way they can please contact Derek Hodkinson on 01704 229000.
