Pike Fishing on SDAA Waters

With the start of the traditional pike season we would like to remind members and guests that it is compulsory for anglers who are fishing for pike to have a landing net of at least 36", an unhooking mat, a main line of at least 15lb bs is recommended and a wire trace with a breaking strain of 20lbs, Pike/Carp rods to be used for piking with a test curve of at least 2.5,
Gaffs and gags are banned, you also need sufficient unhooking equipment.

Pike fishing has without doubt become one of the most specialized branches of coarse fishing. Not least in the methods of handling, unhooking and safe return of the fish once caught. One of the most important aspects of the PAC's work is in helping young or novice pike anglers to overcome what for some are areas of difficulty. You may well have experienced that feeling of 'what do I do now', having just caught your first pike. You are not alone, many have experienced it and lived to tell the tale, thanks to the friendly assistance of PAC members offering sound advice and guidance. The PAC works continually for the benefit of all pike and pike anglers, we seek only to further the opportunities for pike fishing, whilst preserving all that pike fishing is all about.

Angling Times

A two page article has been published featuring the River Crossens in the recent edition of the Angling Times.

Cormorants

The Angling Trust has launched a new web site for you and your fishing friends to record sightings of cormorants, goosanders and mergansers throughout the UK: www.cormorantwatch.org The new site is easy to use - it takes less than a minute to record your sighting.

The Angling Trust succeeded in persuading the Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon to carry out a review of the cormorant licensing procedure and he has stated that he is prepared to take "bold decisions". As part of this review, the Trust needs data on the abundance of cormorants to convince the government to take decisive action. So now it's your turn - go to www.cormorantwatch.org and make a difference.

Angling Trust Chief Executive Mark Lloyd commented "This is a moment when anglers need to stand up and be counted to persuade politicians to simplify licensing procedures and allow greater controls on cormorant numbers - a decision which could affect the future of fishing for the next generation. All anglers who see one of these birds in the next few months must make the effort to visit cormorantwatch.org and put a pin in the map, whether they are a member of the Angling Trust or not."
