With the days now becoming warmer the Rufford Canal has started to pick up with decent catches of roach, bream and tench even a few crucian carp which were stocked earlier this year.

Recent catches from Rufford Canal

Scott Mendonca with a
22lb pike caught end of February from the River Crossens, using eel section on a running ledger rig.
After a great run of pike so far this season, with four double figures and a personal best of 15lb . I was given a terrible start to the new year with the first six sessions bringing just one seven pounder and five very cold, very depressing blanks! Feeling less than optimistic on my seventh attempt, I bought a pack of eel sections as a change from my usual options and within twenty minutes of switching to it I was rewarded with my first twenty.
Well made up!

SDAA member Heath Billington with a nice Crossens pike.
Fishing has been slow on the Rufford Canal recently , bread punch fished over bread crumb and squats are tempting the roach. Plenty of jack pike being caught but no whoppers. We would like to remind pike anglers to take home their dead bait packs after they have finished with them, there seems to be quite a few being left behind of late around a dozen or so were collected last week by the water's bailiff.
